To most people, being a DJ (disc jockey) is all fun because DJs get to listen and play with music. However, like every other job in the world, there are pros and cons when it comes to making a living from being a DJ.


At the early phrase, the difficult part is getting your first paying gig. But you are not alone, even some of the world's biggest DJs have found themselves in your shoes at their startup stage. For many others, the best part of being a good DJ is the fame and money that comes with the territory.
So if you want to become a popular DJ, have it in mind that you probably won't make much money at your startup stage.

Establish a working relationship with a well-known DJ who have already created a name for himself in the industry, because there's no better person to train you than a well-recognized DJ. Be prepare to part with some money to facilitate the process.

Get a Job in a Radio Station as a DJ
Once you get the part of mastering the necessary DJ skills settled, what better way to showcase those skills than to work for radio stations as their DJ.
These days, many radio stations have their own radio mix shows and they are always on the lookout for new mixers. Use these platforms to sell yourself and to get your name out there ; as time goes on, the experiences from these radio mix shows will help you to get a much more high-paying jobs.

Become a Mobile DJ

A lot of DJs shy away from the idea of becoming a mobile DJ; But a mobile DJ is actually a fun and cool way to make extra money.
A mobile DJ (is a DJ who's always on call) works at events such as, graduation parties, fundraising event, child dedication, birthday parties, weddings etc.

Find Sponsors
As an upcoming DJ, it is best to get prominent personnels or corporate bodies to sponsor your work ; Because initially, you might not be making enough money, but you will certainly get good publicity and perhaps some other benefits like, branded gears and flyers from these Sponsors.

Build a Website and Monetize it
Once you have found your mark in the DJ industry, jump into social media marketing and make your name known. Build a website and blog about your DJ activities, share your experiences and knowledge with aspiring DJs and other interested parties.

Create your own merchandise and display on your site for people to see and make purchase. Showcase pictures from different events you played in and not forgetting your contact information as well.
